Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition: Unpacking

After a lot of wait and speculations, Xiaomi is finally launching their notebooks in India starting with the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition. It comes at a time when the tensions between the two nations are high with a large number of people across the country calling out for a boycott of the Chinese products. The Hoziron Edition is the flagship model of the lineup and has a standout build quality. The company follows a unibody design just like we can find in the MacBook and weighs a mere 1.35 kgs.

Upon unboxing you can find a 65 W wall charger in the box along with a quick start guide included in the documentation pack along with a Xiaomi Webcam. The laptop has a minimal design with a smooth metal finish and comes in dull grey colour which reminiscent’s the Apple MacBook. The laptop, however, comes without any branding on the laptop which is unlike any company in the market. The only place where you can find the branding is on the bottom chin of the screen which makes the branding muted. The design upon opening the laptop also reminds you of the MacBook and it comes with a chiclet-style keyboard with a fair amount of key travel.

The display of the laptop is one of the best features of the laptop because the 14-inch display has minimum bezels on the sides. The screen is an anti-glare display that is good to look at and has a 16:9 aspect ratio. It has a refresh rate of 60 Hz with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels. The brightness of the laptop disappoints since it is just 250 nits. It comes with a fairly large trackpad with multi-touch input and supports gestures. Looking at the input ports, the laptop comes with a USB-C, 2 USB 3.1 ports, a full-sized HDMI, USB 2.0 port, headphone jack, and a charger port. The speakers on the notebook are down-firing placed on either side at an angle and the sound quality of these 2 X 2W speakers is good. The notebook is packed with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD with pre-installed Windows 10 Home Edition.
