Jio GigaFiber Set Top Box Review

Ever since Reliance Jio Fiber was launched, the ISP has been making waves in the nation. Recently the company has received investments worth INR 1.15 lakh crores by giving up 24% of stakes in the Jio platforms to the investors. The plans announced by the company include a minimum speed of 100 Mbps with the starting price tag of INR 699 + GST and can go all the way up to 1 Gbps which will fetch the user INR 8,499. The plans will also be offered with long term benefits that will provide substantial higher value.

The remote that comes with the set top box is really good, but sadly those under the impression that this is the replacement to a cable TV will be disappointed. The set-top box has a port for the antenna where you can put your cable connection, but the company is yet to inform about which one we should opt for. The next port is the audio out port if you have a home theater, an HDMI port which supports up to 4k, Ethernet jack (Don’t worry, the device comes with WiFi), 2 USB ports and the power port.

The interface of the TV shows all the content that is available but it will also vary on the broadband plan that you opt for. The system is more of an aggregator which takes content from multiple sources. The system interface also shows an option for Jio Live TV but it doesn’t work as of now since you need a separate cable TV connection that will be attached. It is also possible that Jio will partner with a company for the same. The Jio store has a lot of generic apps but doesn’t include much of the 3rd party apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. the main 3rd party apps available currently are Voot, Sony LIV, Hotstar, Zee5, Sun Nxt, and Alt Balaji. The supportive apps pull in 4k resolution videos by default so you will have to keep the setting in check else your data consumption will be extremely high.
